The stage is set, and now the 2024 T20 World Cup is upon us. This time, the USA and West Indies will be jointly hosting the international event. The new edition will present a new challenge for all the teams as the US will be hosting the World Cup for the first time. Interestingly, not many bilateral series have been played there before, so different challenges would come up for teams as none of them would be familiar with the prevailing conditions.

There are a total of 20 teams that will be participating in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup. There will be 4 pools of teams with 5 teams each.

  • The Top two teams from each pool will qualify for the Super 8’s. 

Venues for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup:

A total of 9 cricket stadiums across West Indies and USA are shortlisted to host matches at the tournament. Out of the total number of matches, 16 will be played in the USA across 3 cities: Lauderhill, Dallas and New York. The remaining 41 will be played in the West Indies across 6 different cities. The 2 Semi-finals will be played in Trinidad and Guyana while the Finals will be hosted in Barbados

Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Texas

The Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas has a capacity of 7,000 and no international match has been played here before. However, domestic records reveal that the pitch report is such that batting first is an advantage on this ground. The temperature is expected to be warm at this time of the year, and hence it will play a big role too.

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York

The Nassau Cricket Ground in New York has been freshly built to host the mega event. The stadium has a capacity of about 34,000 spectators and will host the biggest match of the tournament, India vs Pakistan. This ground will host the warm up games before the tournament begins. It is difficult to determine the nature of pitch, but since it pitch soil is imported from the Adelaide Cricket Ground, there’s a possibility that it behaves in the same way, i.e. it will be a batting friendly pitch

Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida

The Lauderhill Cricket Ground in Florida has a capacity of roughly 20,000 people and has hosted several International matches before too. India had an exposure in this ground as well when they played a bilateral series against West Indies in 2019. The pitch is batting friendly and hence, the crowd can expect fireworks all round the ground. 

Providence Cricket Stadium, Guyana

The Providence Stadium in Guyana also has a total capacity of about 20,000 spectators. The pitch report of the Providence Cricket Stadium in Guayana suggests that it’s not a very batting friendly and can help bowlers do well. The average T20 score her is about 150 - 160 runs.

Kensington Oval, Barbados

The Kensington Oval Stadium in Barbados is one of the oldest cricket grounds in the Carribean. It has a relatively low capacity of 28,000 spectators. The Pitch report of the Kensington Oval suggests that the pitch is generally pacy and bouncy and can help batsman bat fearlessly

Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, Antigua

The last time the T20 World Cup was held here in 2010, the capacity of the stadium was temporarily doubled. Brian Lara Cricket Stadium, Trinidad

The Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad, named after the legendary batsman, Brian Lara has a capacity of about 15,000 spectators. The pitch report of the Brian Lara stadium suggests that the pitch is slow. Initially, batting is easier, but it gets harder as the match progresses.

Arnos Vale Cricket Ground, St Vincent

The Arnos Vale cricket ground in St. Vincent has a capacity of 18,000 spectators. The pitch report of the stadium suggests that it will not be easy for the batters to score runs abundantly. The average first innings score in T20Is here is 144, suggesting a low scoring pitch.

Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St Lucia

The Darren Sammy Cricket stadium in St Lucia has a capacity of about 13,000 permanent spectators but will be expended for 20,000 spectators for the World Cup. The St Lucia pitch report suggests that it favours bowlers, especially spin bowling with the old leather ball. Batsmen struggle against spin, but fast bowlers leak runs. Batsmen need to be cautious early on to score big. Toss winners should bowl first as the pitch improves as the game progresses.

India have their first three matches in Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. India’s fourth league match will be against Canada at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida. 

India after having a nearly perfect campaign in World Cup 2023, will now be eyeing on the 2024 cup. One major advantage for the Indian Team is that all the players are in good touch due to the IPL.
