India’s road to victory: Champions of Under 19 World Cup 2025
Before the commencement of the Under 19 World Cup, we all knew that India will go a long way, considering their bench strength. And on the evening of 2nd February, 2025, the youngsters sealed a victory against South Africa Women and clinched the title for the second time. This was the second edition of Women’s Under 19 World Cup and just like the first one, India brought the trophy home. Their journey hadn’t been easy. Before the selection, each player had faced their own share of setbacks. And once the team was announced, they collectively fought each and every match with grit and determination. Now, it is a moment of immense joy for the entire country, as the tricolour is soaring high.

India played their first league match against West Indies on 19th January, 2025 and that’s when they announced themselves at the grand stage. They won the match by 9 wickets with Parunika Sisodia being the highest wicket taker, grabbing three wickets. The next match they played was against Malaysia, and it was the bowling department again which did convincingly well. However, this time it was Vaishnavi Sharma registering a fifer by her name.
Winning two on two gave a lot of confidence to the young girls and they won the next match against Sri Lanka as well. This time it was G Trisha, who dominated the innings with the bat, scoring 49 off 44. The fourth league match was against Bangladesh and India won that match by 8 wickets. The last league match was against Scotland and it was a formality as India has already qualified for the semi finals. G Trisha, played a massive role to the winning cause as she scored a magnificent century and remained unbeaten on 110(59)*.

The next game, a crucial one, the semi finals, was played between India and England on 31 January, 2025 at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur. G Kamalini’s 56 off 50, Parunika Sisodia’s 3 dismissals and Vaishnavi Sharma’s 3 wickets secured India’s place in the finals. It was a team effort as both the batting unit and bowling unit performed well.
The grand clash, the finals, was played against South Africa and without much trouble Indian bowlers dismissed all the batters of the opponent’s team. Chasing 82 wasn’t a steep task and Indian batters did that within 12 overs. Kudos to the whole Indian Team and the support staff as they remained undefeated throughout the series and dominated in every game they played. It’s a moment to cherish nation’s victory at the highest level. Just like Rohit Sharma’s team won the T20 World Cup 2024, the young women did the same at the junior level.
