In this article by ZAP, let's get into and know more about Kane Williamson's career, his stats and his records.

Kane Williamson's Early life and Domestic Cricket Career

Williamson was born on 8 August, 1990 and is currently 34 years old. His father was closely associated to the sport and his ability continued in Kane’s genes. Only at a very young age, his coach described him as the “young lad in thirst to be phenomenal but not at anyone else's expense”. This statement. ever since then, has proven absolutely spot on when we talk about Williamson's character on an off the field.

In 2007, Williamson made his first class cricket debut at age 17. Later in the same year, he was picked in the U19 team touring India and he was even named as captain of the squad. He also captained U19 New Zealand team in 2008 U19 Cricket World Cup.

After that, his credentials were put to the test in the longest format of cricket as he made his Test debut on 4 November, 2010 versus India. Lastly, he made his T20I debut on 16 October, 2011 V Zimbabwe

Kane Williamson has by far been the best Kiwi batsman in the last decade. With unreal consistency and the ability to adapt to any format of the game, Williamson stood as a rock in the Kiwi batting lineup at number 3. With his Cricket Bat in hand and an exquisite batting technique, he is one of the most pleasing to the eye batsmen to watch. Not just his batting, his fielding is incredible too and his acrobatic efforts in the field have helped the Blackcaps save some crucial runs.

The highest point of Kane Williamson's career came in 2016, when he was declared as the captain of the New Zealand Cricket Team across all formats. He took over the duties from Brendon McCullum after his retirement. So far, Williamson has played in 10 ICC World Cup in total, including both ODI World Cups and T20 World Cups, both as a captain and as a team player. He's come extremely close to winning both but hasn't been able to wrap his arms around any trophy. His most successful campaign was in 2019 when New Zealand lost the finals to England by barest margin on boundary count. However, the Blackcaps and Williamson have been able to win an ICC Tournament when they beat India in the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final.

In June 2024, he stepped down from white ball captaincy after New Zealand’s poor performance and group stage exit from the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup.

Apart from the team glories, Kane has achieved a lot of personal milestones as well. He is the highest test run scorer for New Zealand and also holds the record of being the youngest centurion for the Kiwis, when he scored a ton against Bangladesh at age 20.
