A brief history of the Canada Cricket Team:

Cricket was introduced in Canada about 200 years ago by George Anthony Barber, an Englishman who moved there. He encouraged the game in Toronto and even founded the Toronto Cricket Club in 1827. Later, the game started growing within the country, and eventually, Canada played its first international match against the USA in 1844 in New York at St. George’s Cricket Club. Cricket was so popular that it was declared the national sport when Canada became a nation in 1867.
Over the years, Canada has played against various international teams, including the USA, England, Australia, and Ireland. They also became associate members of the ICC in 1968, and since then, the sport has slowly grown. The reason for the slow growth is that it is mostly taken up by immigrants from the subcontinent, but locals have also started following it very enthusiastically. They participated in the first Cricket World Cup in 1979 but did not progress beyond the first round. In 2003, they won their first One Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh. But with time, the popularity of the game decreased. The game grew for a while, but then a similar looking sport, Baseball, got more popular and has taken over the popularity of the game.
