The Exciting ICC Calender: Major trophies in 2025

The Indian Cricket Team, both men’s and women’s, faced its own set of ups and downs in 2024. The biggest achievement of the previous year was the title of 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. But paradoxically, a more than usual defeat also came India’s way. The Women’s team had an early exit in the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, the men’s team failed to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy after 12 years etc. Hence, it was a rollercoaster ride for both the players and the fans of the Indian Cricket Team. Now, 2025 brings its own set of opportunities and challenges as five major ICC events will be played this year, across various age groups.

Today, in this article by ZAP cricket, we will share the list of forthcoming ICC events and their details.

Under 19 Women’s World Cup

The first big event of 2025 is the Under 19 Women’s World Cup. The matches will be played in Malaysia from 18 January 2024 till 2 February 2025. Total 16 teams will participate and fight for the title. The format of the tournament is T20 and 41 matches will be played at different venues- Bayuemas Oval, Johor Cricket Academy Oval, YSD-UKM Cricket Oval and Borne Cricket Ground.

India’s squad: Niki Prasad, Sanika Chalke, G Trisha, Kamalini G, Bhavika Ahire, Ishwari Awasare, Mithila Vinod, Joshitha VJ, Sonam Yadav, Parunika Sisodiya, Kesari Drithi, Aayushi Shukla, Anandita Kishor, MD Shabnam, Vaishnavi Sharma

Champions Trophy

The next big event, for which everyone is eagerly waiting, is Champions Trophy 2025. The matches were supposed to be held in Pakistan. But due to India’s strong stand, their matches will be played in Dubai. The tournament will commence on 19 February and the final will be played on 9 March 2025 at Dubai International stadium. The format of the tournament is ODI and 8 teams will be rooting for the title.

BCCI is yet to announce India’s squad. Men in blue won this major tournament last time in 2013 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Maybe India could replicate the same results in 2025 as well.

World Test Championship Final

The final of the World Test Championship will be played in June 2025 at the Mecca of Cricket- Lord’s. It will be the third WTC cycle and the two teams who’ll be playing the climax match aren't fixed yet. The first edition was won by New Zealand and the second one was won by Australia and in both these cycles India remained defending champions. Now, in the 2023-25 cycle, the chances of India reaching the finals are quite bleak. Nevertheless, it’ll still be interesting to see how the best teams in the world approach for the final showdown.

ICC 2025 Women’s World Cup

The only big event for women in blue this year is the ICC 2025 Women’s World Cup. The matches will be played in the August-September window and will be held in India only. Total 31 matches will be played across different cities as eight teams will fight for the title. It will be a great opportunity for the home team to grab their maiden title as they have full opportunity to take the best advantage of home conditions. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, women and blue can potentially turn the tables in their favour and carve history.

Men’s Asia Cup

The last and final ICC tournament in 2025 will be the 17th edition of Asia Cup. The tournament will serve as a crucial preparation for the teams that qualify for 2026 T20 World Cup. The dates haven’t been released yet, but the tournament is expected to be scheduled in October. Format played will be T20I and six nations will participate. The group are divided as follows:

Group A: India, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates

Group B: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh

Cricket fans must be thrilled and shall mark their calendars as 2025 holds a lot of exuberance for them. Maybe, like 2024, the Indian team lifts another ICC trophy in 2025. The ZAP family wishes good luck to all players and we hope that they all bring trophies home and dominate at global stage.
